Is a business card still relevant today? The times have changed – and although there are still instances where handing out your business cards to prospective clients and acquaintances is the ideal thing to do – smart phones have made exchanging business contacts a lot more convenient than stuffing wallets with dozens of business cards received from different marketers. The basic information contained in a business card is usually the name of the business, the name of the business person, the person’s email and phone number, the business’s web address and physical address, et cetera et cetera.
The average smart phone allows you to store all the contact information related to a business acquaintance when creating a new contact and this typically includes the person’s name, email, and web address. Because it is much easier for people to locate your saved contact details in their phones than it is to locate your business card from all the business cards in their archives – a better option would be to invest more time in exchanging contacts than in exchanging business cards. When exchanging contacts – people tend to just give out their names and phone numbers – and forget to give out their web address as well.
A saved web address is more ideal than a web address listed on a business card because all a person has to do to visit your website is to click on the link saved in their phone – whereas a business card listing requires an extra effort to visit the same website. In other words – giving out your web address alongside your name and phone number makes your website more accessible due to the improved ease of use. A website is a great marketing tool and also a place where your potential customers can engage with your products/or services in a much broader way as intended; but there is also way much more that you can do with a website than just using it as your business card refer. As a matter of fact – when done right, a website is supposed to bring you potential customers from across the internet and not just the potential customers within your business card reach.
